Camera & Angles

The camera and angle effects that are listed below are the most heavily used in the media we see everyday;

 Wide shot:
This shot would be used to get all the characters or settings into one camera view.

Over the shoulder:
This would be used to get the perspective of what the character is observing

Low camera angle:
This angle would be used so the actors who the camera is facing looks bigger and more intimidating

Aerial camera shot:
This angle would be used to make sure that the audience can see the entire scene and set

Long shot:
Like the wide shot this is so the audience can take in the entire scene and a scope of the surroundings in the film.

Tilt/Dutch
You would use this shot to give the audience a sense of disorientation and possibly make them feel uncomfortable by doing so

Extreme Close up
This shot can be used to give additional focus to an object or somebody that the audience my have missed
High camera angle
This angle could be used to make an object or person look a lot more distant and further away to give more emphasis

Medium long shot
This shot can be used so that the audience can make out all of what the character in the shot is doing

Static camera angle

This angle can be used when there is dialogue being spoken so it is not disorientating for the audience
Medium shot
This camera shot is used so you can gauge the body language of the characters as well as their facial expressions

Close up
Close ups are used so that the audience can see clearly the facial expressions and reactions of the actor or actress their watching

Editing

I used adobe premiere to learn who to edit selected videos and merge into a new sequence to do this I learnt how to use the crop tool on different videos as well as selecting and uploading the video I made onto Youtube. I also learnt how to slow down and increase the volume of selected clips of videos as well as using the rate stretch tool to prolong audio background so it encapsulates the video clips that I need.

Logo

My logo symbolises a new and ambitious production company that will soon rival many famous and successful instituations; I took inspiration from Metro Goldwyn Mayer studio's lion logo and thought that a producer should have a large and powerfull figure or animal as the face of its company.

Representation

Sin city represents the various different types of criminals that can inhabit one area which include; murderers, assassins, prostitutes and cannibals and the corruption that can consume an entire city. The film represents people who live in a corrupted society were the police is owned and bought out and it follows out various characters who each have to fight this corruption but all do it in very different and controversial ways. The film represents this topic in a very harsh and real life way as it tells the story of each one of the characters having to fight this corruption but ultimately fail as they can not fight an entire system only a specific man. This film portrays the subject in a very comic styled way, it sets the movie out as a large story that is split into three different sections each following a different character each of whom sets out in a very detective style way so you believe there performances as you believe that you would go about things in the same manner if placed in the same situation. The opening scene of the film is very appropriate for Dyer's theory as it shows a very wealthy looking and well dressed couple on a balcony and your immediately assumption is that they are deeply in love and have a fairytale relationship, this comes to an end as the mysterious man suddenly assassinates the women. This shows how we immediately view the couple is completely wrong as all the scene is, is an assassin killing his target and not sharing a intimate moment as you first assume and no longer treat them as a deeply in love couple. The film has a massive absent of colour as the entire film is shot in a noir style approach with only a few moments of colour (the blue in a characters eyes or the red of a duvet) this makes those sparse moments of background colour incredibly noticeable and you get to appreciate these colours in a great amount of detail and would have missed them if the film was not shot in this style. The representation of the film is of the original writer as the film is an adaptation of an early graphic novel and the film follows extremely closely to the novels plot, it completely reflects the writer Frank Millers representation of corruption and how he views it and what some people will do to get rid of it even if they go to extreme lengths to do it. Mulvey theory is extremely relative to this film as Laura Mulvey's theory of the 'male gaze' is very accurate to this film as all the main protagonist in this film are all men each of whom are extremely tough and hardened as well as this her theory of voyeurism as prostitutes have a large role in this film as there are very few female characters in this film that are not either strippers or prostitutes, Barthes theory though is not very relevant to this film as it does not follow a fairytale very closely except in the first scene were the mysterious couple look they are about to elope and run away and live happily ever after but it ends in a very non-fairytale style way.

Opening sequence of American Psycho (Thriller)

The opening scene to American psycho describes the morning routine of the character Patrick Bateman he narrates his process of scrutinise daily work outs and facial care while he describes in detail each individual product he uses and for which reason, he says to the audience he thinks its important to keep himself in shape and to look healthy. The scene is set throughout the characters apartment and shows his rich and luxurious living conditions. The theme of the intro is his importance of looking good and keeping healthy to keep up the intention that he is normal. A main prop of the intro is a facial peel that helps to separate the audience with the character as he revels his true personality. The narrative is the characters voice describing his morning process and his own personality. The only character is Patrick Bateman going through his morning. The text used throughout the narrative is a relaxed and monotone speech which just talks about the products he uses daily and finally his true personality. The camera is mainly focused on the characters face and the different individual activities he does each morning.
